Museum Guests

The Elgin County Railway Museum is very pleased to welcome another railway orientated organization that shares our facilities.

The Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society

The Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society has been a resident of the Museum since 1993 and are dedicated to restoring and operating vintage railway equipment.  The first focus of their efforts was former Essex Terminal Railway 0-6-0 steam locomotive no. 9. Essex Terminal no.9 After arriving to St. Thomas in hundreds of pieces in late 1993, it was restored to operating condition.  On October 2, 1997, No. 9 ran under its own power for the first time since its retirement in 1963.

No. 9 has since moved on another SOLRS operation out of town, but their current restoration project in St. Thomas is 0-4-0 tank engine #124.

Be sure to check out their web site at http://www.steam-train.org/.
